 Source of the nile

Jinja is a town in Uganda, located 125 east of Kampala – Uganda’s capital – famous for the River Nile. Located on the shores of Lake Victoria and close to the source of the White Nile River, Jinja is also considered the capital of Busoga kingdom. Jinja is bordered by towns like Njeru (1.9nm), Kimaka (2.8nm), Buwenda (2.8nm), Mpumudde (2.6nm), Masese (2.3nm), Bugungu (1.5nm) and Walukuba (2.4nm).

Jinja town is rich with large houses and big yards – a legacy that the early town developers left. Jinja is a quiet and calm town with tree-lined streets – a rather welcoming and comfortable environment. There is much less traffic in Jinja town, compared to Kampala city, so it is easy to get around. There are plenty of parking spaces and it is Parking spaces are in plenty and public transport is easy to get. The cool and almost-carbon-free air in Jinja makes it the ultimate place to visit.  

Jinja is such a small town that it is impossible for one to get lost in it. However, though Jinja is small, it has a lot to offer tourists – ranging from beautiful sceneries to exciting activities to an active Hindu temple close to Jinja, which has a bronze bust of Gandhi and a memorial garden where some of Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were thrown. (There also is a Buddhist temple). In addition, you can visit the Mabira forest reserves – the largest forest in Central Uganda – on your way to Jinja.

 

The Owen Falls Dam
Owen Falls Dam is the source of electricity for both Uganda and Kenya. More so, to cross from Kampala to eastern Uganda, you must pass this dam. The Owen Falls Dam is also known as Nalubaale Dam and is the source of the White Nile because it is where the river flows out of Lake Victoria.

Bujagali Falls
Bujagali Falls is a popular weekend hangout spot for many Ugandans. It is located several kilometers downstream from the source of the Nile. Bujagali Falls is a world-class spot for kayaking, white-water rafting, quad-biking, safe boat rides and entertainment. More so, there is plenty of room for anyone that would rather sit or lie back in the grass or on the comfortable seats and appreciate the nature – or just be.

Quad-biking
For several years, quad-biking has been a popular activity at the Bujagali falls. It can be done in groups, as a family or individually. White-water rafting
For most Ugandan tourists, white-water rafting has become a most loved activity. The waters are safe, especially because there are neither crocodiles nor hippos in the Bujagali section of the river.
Several competitions have been held by Kayakers over the past four years at Bujagali Falls.
You can’t fail to get a group to join, once you get there and therefore it doesn’t matter what day you decide to go white-water rafting.

The Source of the Nile
